More Quackery (FRAUD) to AVOID!

I will be adding to this post.

"Health Fraud products are articles of unproven effectiveness"

Quacks use fake: stats, comments, reviews, subscribers, views and more - ALL bs!

If a remedy is UNPROVEN but sold/marketed as being effective - that's FRAUD - and that's quackery (health terrorism) every day - in every way!

"Oil of Oregano", 2011, color and bolding added by me, @ScienceBasedMed

https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/oil-of-oregano/
"There is no published evidence to demonstrate ... oil of oregano is effective for any medical condition or illness." There are other articles since then - all using research predating 2011 - bottom line - UNPROVEN as a remedy for ANYTHING!

"Oregano: Health Benefits, Side Effects", 2015, color and bolding added by me, @mnt

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/266259.php
"important to note that further high quality study results are necessary to confirm these claims" = UNPROVEN

From the MNT link above

"Anti-Metastatic and Anti-Tumor Growth Effects of Origanummajorana on Highly Metastatic Human Breast Cancer Cells: Inhibition of NFκB Signaling and Reduction of Nitric Oxide Production", 2013, bolding added by me
"our current study along with our previous findings, identify Origanum majorana as a promising chemopreventive and therapeutic candidate ... inhibits breast cancer growth and metastasis" Promising is still - UNPROVEN!

Oil Pulling? UNPROVEN with a SERIOUS and dangerous RISK!

"To date, scientific studies have not provided the necessary clinical evidence to demonstrate ... oil pulling reduces the incidence of dental caries, whitens teeth or improves oral health and well-being ... articles in the media recommending oil pulling ... have not described potential adverse health effects ... case reports of lipoid pneumonia ... diarrhea or upset stomach have been reported."

Email Reply: colloidal silver?

"My dad takes colloidal silver for his health, but is it safe?", 2014, color and bolding added by me, @MayoClinic
http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/consumer-health/expert-answers/colloidal-silver/faq-20058061

"Colloidal silver isn't ... safe or effective for any ... health claims manufacturers make ... Rarely ... colloidal silver ... can cause possibly irreversible serious health problems ... kidney damage ... neurological problems such as seizures" That is on top of medication interactions! AVOID! The only ones I know of recommending colloidal silver are - who else - quacks!

Email Reply: quack immune system
LOL!! TRUE! If quacks had the "immunity" they shill from products/diet they'd never get sick - cold/flu/other!

"Colloidal Silver: What You Need To Know", 2016, color and bolding added by me, @NIH_NCCIH

"Colloidal silver can cause serious side effects ... isn’t safe or effective for treating any disease or condition. ... Topical silver (used on the skin) has some appropriate medical uses, such as in bandages and dressings to treat burns, skin wounds, or skin infections. ... also in medicines to prevent conjunctivitis (an eye condition) in newborns. ... there are no legally marketed prescription or over-the-counter drugs containing colloidal silver that are taken by mouth."

"Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) in Newborns" , 2015, bolding added by me, @CDCgov

http://www.cdc.gov/conjunctivitis/newborns.html
"In the past, silver nitrate was used; it has been mostly replaced with antibiotic eye drops, such as erythromycin."

"Neonatal Conjunctivitis", 2015, color and bolding added by me, @Medscape

http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1192190-overview
"Aseptic neonatal conjunctivitis most often is a chemical conjunctivitis that is induced by silver nitrate solution ... used for ... infectious conjunctivitis. Chemical conjunctivitis is becoming less common owing to the use of erythromycin ointment or povidone iodide in place of silver nitrate solution for the prophylaxis of infectious conjunctivitis."

"May 5, 2015: Skin Care Business Convicted of Selling Misbranded, Unauthorized Medical Products", color and bolding added by me, @US_FDA

"The FDA has not approved drugs containing colloidal silver due to concerns over lack of effectiveness and side effects ... discoloration of the skin resulting from an accumulation of silver or silver sulfide ... corporation faces a fine of up to $250,000.00 ...sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant."

"Consumer Advisory: Dietary Supplements Containing Silver May Cause Permanent Discoloration of Skin and Mucous Membranes (Argyria)", updated 2014, color and bolding added by me, @US_FDA
http://www.fda.gov/Food/RecallsOutbreaksEmergencies/SafetyAlertsAdvisories/ucm184087.htm
"Silver ingredients may be identified on the label of a dietary supplement as "colloidal silver" (a liquid suspension of tiny silver particles), "colloidal silver protein," "ionic silver," "native silver," "silver," "silver alginate," "silver protein," "mild silver protein," and "true colloidal silver." ... silver is a nonessential mineral that has no known physiological functions or benefits when taken orally. ... It is unlawful for a manufacturer to represent a dietary supplement containing silver as able to prevent, diagnose, mitigate, treat, or cure any disease."

"Myoclonic status epilepticus following repeated oral ingestion of colloidal silver", 2003, color and bolding added by me
"71-year-old man ... developed myoclonic status epilepticus and coma after daily ingestion of colloidal silver for 4 months ... he remained in a persistent vegetative state until his death 5.5 months later. Silver products can cause irreversible neurologic toxicity"

"REVIEW
Silver Products for Medical Indications: Risk-Benefit Assessment", 1996, with photos, color and bolding added by me
http://mathsci.free.fr/toxic.pdf
"silver has no known physiologic function and should not be promoted as an essential mineral supplement. Recent promotional assertions made about the effectiveness of these products in numerous diseases remain unsubstantiated. ... indiscriminate use of silver can lead to irreversible toxicity ... risk exceeds the unsubstantiated benefit for OTC silver-containing products. Consequently, there are no FDA approved CSP products available OTC."

Colloidal silver for conjunctivitis? NO! Silver nitrate was used in the PAST - replaced with better medications because of the problem it caused!

Quacks ONLY research what other quacks say - and that is ALL bs!

I'm completely unimpressed by any quack presenting themselves in mostly heavily edited bs PR (public relations) as "warm"/"silly"/friendly. Some of the "remedies" quacks shill are not only unproven to have any health benefits but are also well known to be toxic and avoided. All of them are dangerous! Taking/using any of even the seemingly benign ones - unproven and fraudulent - can delay needed real medication(s), medical intervention for serious illnesses, and the result can be, and has been - harm/death.

Quackery remains firmly rooted in the past - in denial of failures, unproven effectiveness, rebranding old quackery, lying, misinforming - all to make money from FRAUD!
